II. Summary

MultiTech is releasing new ordering part numbers for select Dragonfly™ LTE Cat 4 cellular embedded modem products. The existing ordering part numbers are changing status from Generally Available to End-of-Life (EOL) effective immediately.

For each model that has become EOL there will be two new models introduced as recommended replacements as described below. Customers will need to consult with their MultiTech distributor to determine which of the new ordering part numbers have the best availability and order accordingly.

All of the new ordering part numbers will include a new radio firmware version that changes the default User Equipment (UE) setting from Voice Centric to Data Centric. This change is in response to the AT&T 3G sunset and its impacts on certain 4G devices. See PCN# 05062021-00 for more information on this topic. As a reminder, customers using the models listed in the PCN on the Verizon network are not impacted by this change.

In addition to the new Data Centric firmware, ordering part numbers that include .R2 also contain an updated revision of the printed circuit board with alternate components. This change is in response to global supply chain issues. MultiTech has redesigned the .R2 models with components that may be more readily available.

The core functionality of these new Dragonfly MTQ-L4G1-B02.Rx ordering part numbers has not changed. MultiTech has made these updates to address a change in carrier network requirements for 4G devices and to address global supply chain issues.

For customers that have existing inventory of the original ordering part number (MTQ-L4G1-B02), MultiTech recommends you keep that inventory. With supply chains still constrained it is the best way to make sure you have the product you need.

Customers have the option of flash updating existing inventory (MTQ-L4G1-B02) with the new Data Centric firmware. This is recommended if you are an AT&T customer. You can request the firmware by opening a support ticket at the following location: https://support.multitech.com/support/login.html

III. Impacted Products – Old and New Ordering Part Numbers

The impacted old ordering part number products listed in this PCN are now considered End-of-Life (EOL). Please work with your distribution partner to update exiting orders to call for the new ordering part numbers.
